Long-term Clinical Outcomes, Maintenance and Repair of Biomimetic Restorations

Long term Clinical Outcomes, Maintenance and Repair of Biomimetic Restorations

Course Duration: 80 minutes – 1 CE credit

Description

This lesson synthesizes over 30 years of research and clinical experience, beginning with anterior bonded porcelain restorations. Their long-term success is well documented, with only minor complications such as small cracks or chipping. The session analyzes the main causes of these failures primarily related to design and bonding errors and presents step-by-step repair protocols. Both prep and no-prep ceramic veneers are reviewed, including advanced (Type III) designs for the rehabilitation of severely worn or fractured teeth. Challenging cases of biocorroded dentitions are addressed using an ultraconservative bilaminar approach, combining palatal composite veneers with labial ceramic veneers, often in conjunction with the Dahl principle to increase vertical dimension without systematically restoring posterior teeth. The last part of the lesson focuses on the clinical performance of bonded posterior restorations, with a comprehensive overview of the deep margin elevation (DME) technique.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this lesson, the clinician will understand the key parameters influencing the long-term success of biomimetic restorations and be able to identify and manage the complications.
