Description
Today, most semi-(in)direct and indirect restorations are fabricated digitally through subtractive milling. However, these materials often exhibit monolithic or simplified optical properties and therefore greatly benefit from customization to match the unique characteristics of each patient’s smile. This lesson explores how to elevate CAD/CAM polymer-based and lithium disilicate restorations from good to exceptional through refined craftsmanship. It begins with proper dentofacial digital diagnostics, followed by the development of a wax-up, mock-up, and patient-approved design. Digital wax-ups and additive manufacturing (3D printing) are also addressed. The core of the session focuses on a step-by-step approach to customizing milled composite resin and e.max veneers using microlayering techniques, including cutback and internal characterization. The lesson concludes with an innovative, “out-of-the-box” concept: a biomimetic restorative approach using natural enamel and dentin bringing us closer to the ultimate goal of truly lifelike restorations.
